Hello ! Hi friends !

A difficult exercise, my dear Fame and O'RientCat ??? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

You pulled through very well !!! Bye ! Bye ! Bye !

The correction ? Very Happy

1 – The noise prevented me from sleeping. (impossible)
It was impossible for me to sleep because of the noise.

2 – When I came in, he said that Kevin had just phoned. (told)
When I came in, he told me (that) Kevin had just phoned.

3 – Everyone enjoyed the film except Sophie. (only)
Sophie was the only one not to enjoy the film.

4 – The boys had not visited the museum before. (time)
It was the first time the boys had visited the museum.*

5 – It’s a shame I missed the match on TV last night. (wish)
I wish I had seen/hadn’t missed the match on TV last night.**

6 – Whose car is this ? (belong)
Who(m) does this car belong to ?

7 – It’s not a habit of mine to go to bed so late. (used)***
I’m not used to going to bed so late.

8 – “Why don’t we go out for a Chinese meal?” (suggest)
I suggest we go out for a Chinese meal.

9 – Your hair is much too long. (needs)
Your hair needs cutting.****

10 – I’ve never seen such a cute baby before. (ever)*****
It’s the cutest baby I’ve ever seen.

Some reminders :

* Le passé est vu dans une perpective actuelle = present perfect employé avec it’s the first, second ….. time.
Ici, attention à la concordance des temps.

** Comparez : I wish I saw the match.
I wish I had seen the match.
I wish + preterit modal = action irréelle au moment où l’on parle, donc souhait.
I wish + plus-que-parfait = action irréelle dans le passé, donc regret.

*** to get used to (s’accoutumer à) est suivi du gérondif.
used to (fréquentatif) est suivi de l’infinitif.

**** need + gerondif = jugement de valeur.

***** ever employé avec un superlatif et un present perfect a le sens de « jamais » (déjà).

Many thanks for taking part !!!!
