Hi everybody !
Nous voilà déjà le 16 mars ! Je dois vous dire que je suis ravie en lisant vos réponse, de voir l'intérêt que vous avez manifesté pour cet exercice. Merci, merci beaucoup et bravo à toutes et touT Mais comment, qui se dit décalé, nul.... je ne veux plus lire cela ! Tout le monde a très bien travaillé, et d'ailleurs..... lisez :
1) My car can hold up to 6 people
=>We say a car/plane/room etc. can hold up to10/20/30 people.
2) Here’s the fifty dollars I owe you.
=>When we talk about ‘amounts’ and ‘quantities’, we normally use singular verbs, pronouns and other singular words like the/this/that even if the noun is plural.
3) He is in very good health.
He is very healthy
=> Health is an uncountable noun. It is not normally used with the article ‘a’.
4) Always remember to switch the alarm on before you lock up the building.
=>We put the adverbs ‘always’ and ‘never’ before an imperative (instruction, order, etc.)
5) What’s your size ?
=>We ask people : “What’s your size ?” when trying on clothes, shoes etc.
We ask people : “How big is it ?” when inquiring about the size of objects and other things.
6) I was talking to a man from New York (or a New Yorker) the other day.
7) At the moment, I’m studying computers.
8) There’s lots of traffic in the city today.
There’s a big traffic jam in the city today.
The traffic is very heavy today.
=>In English, traffic is an uncountable noun. It is not normally used with the word ‘a’.
9) It’s 32 kilos.
It weighs 32 kilos.
=>We do not use ‘be heavy’ in measuring expressions.
10) Let’s open another bottle of wine.
=>A wine bottle : an empty bottle.
A bottle of wine : a full bottle.
Je vous souhaite un très très bon weekend, mes amis !
