Hello ! Hi !

Yes, here I am again Laughing Laughing Laughing

level 2 VENDREDI 20 JUILLET 2007

1 – They speak English in India.
2 – Mrs Jones had cleared the table.
3 – You must keep dogs on a leash at all times.
4 – They have just arrested the thief.
5 – My sister, Laura, has decorated the house.
6 – They will ask you to open your cases.
7 – Someone stole my bicycle.
8 – They do not allow dogs in that shop.
9 – They might have sold the flat.
10 – If the girls had seen the accident…
11 – They will certainly reduce taxes soon.
12 – They are going to repair the bridge.

Evil or Very Mad

Hello ! Hello everybody !

1. They speak English in India. ENGLISH IS SPOKEN IN INDIA.

2. Mrs Jones had cleared the table. THE TABLE HAD BEEN CLEARED BY MRS JONES.
Explications: be au past perfect = had been + participe passé + agent

3. You must keep dogs on a leash at all times. DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES .
Explications: Le passif de must keep = must be kept / sujet passif = dogs

4. They have just arrested the thief. THE THIEF HAS JUST BEEN ARRESTED .
Explications: Sujet passif au singulier ( the thief ) => have devient has + just + been + participe passé

5. My sister, Laura, has decorated the house. THE HOUSE HAS BEEN DECORATED BY MY SISTER, LAURA .
Explications: Sujet passif = the house / agent = my sister, Laura => by

6. They will ask you to open your cases. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO OPEN YOUR CASES .
Explications: Futur passif = will be + participe passé

7. Someone stole my bicycle. MY BICYCLE WAS STOLEN .
Explications: Passif de be au preterite = was + participe passé / l'agent n'a pas d'importance ici => pas de 'by'

8. They do not allow dogs in that shop. DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THAT SHOP .
Explications: Sujet passif = dogs / Présent passif et négatif de be => are not / + participe passé 'allowed'

9. They might have sold the flat. THE FLAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOLD .

10. If the girls had seen the accident ... IF THE ACCIDENT HAD BEEN SEEN BY THE GIRLS ...
Explications: Past perfect passif de 'see' => had been seen / importance de l'agent => by the girls

11. They will certainly reduce taxes soon. TAXES WILL CERTAINLY BE REDUCED SOON .
Explications: Pas d'agent => pas de 'by' / will reduce => will be + participe passé 'reduced'

12. They are going to repair the bridge. THE BRIDGE IS GOING TO BE REPAIRED
Explications: Sujet singulier => is / introduire 'be' => going to be / + participe passé de 'build' => 'built'
