If you ask me why that question? I don't know I have no for the moment but I just wanted to limit the searches
if you say YES but ...

Does a big or famous river flow through that town?
Yes! This very old town has been developping along a river since the 9th or 10th century. At the time of its foundation, a small castle was built. Nowadays, this European town is particularly famous for its medieval churches.
Has the cat got your tongue, my friends?

Goodnight,
Is this town located in Portugal?
Unfortunately not! What was your idea?
Maybe you would like we passed in review the 27 countries of Europe? Of course not!
Our enigmatic city developed on one of the most important medieval highways from the North Sea...
My only ambition was to make you search and write in English.
Friendship.

Hello everybody,
Let’s start the day by racking our brains!
I think I had the same idea as MystOGriff on this city but unfortunately it seems it is not Porto, in Portugal.
Your purpose is to make us speak English and you won your bet, at least for me !
It’s hard work and it takes me a long time to write all this but what a fabulous exercise. Thank you.
But I only hope you will correct my mistakes because I’m doing it with the real intention of improving my English.
Let’s go back to the subject in hand…
Could the city we are looking for be English and twined with 2 other cities, one French and one German. The names of those cities could also have served as a riddle ?
Have I been clear enough ? I don’t know how to express exactly my idea ?
Thanks once more because it is not only a linguistic exercise but also a wonderful way to enlarge our general knowledge and culture, and last but not least promote friendship.
I really got the good deal when I chose your webside.
But, phew , what a “brain gymnastic?” this morning. I’m exhausted! and out fo order for a while!
And maybe all this to get a negative response!
See you later, somewhat rested

Hi there !
Well, I thought of Porto (Portugal), famous for its wine !!!
Despite your useful clues, my dear Nobody, my searches are vain . There are lots of towns which match your description, but I can't find one until now - whose name has another meaning !
Could you please, tell us, if the second word belongs to the field of gastronomy ??
Have a nice day, my friends !

Hi there!
Could that town be English and twined with a French city and a German one?
That enigmatic town is unfortunately not in England... It's situated along a river and on one of the most important medieval highways from North Sea... to Italy. Its University was founded in 1527.
Is it Amboise?
No! Amboise is a French medieval city situated along the "Loire" river in the "Indre et Loire" département. Our enigmatic city is unfortunately not in France.
Does the second word belong to the field of gastronomy?
Not a bit of it!
It was first noticed and described in 1967 and belongs to the field of... microbiology!
Friendship

Good evening dear Professor and schoolmates !
First of all, I must thank very warmly our friend Nobody thanks to whom we learn so many things !
First word : On the old route from Frankfurt to Kassel, don't forget the train stops at M A R B U R G (Germany, of course!), my friends.
It's a beautiful town with lots of medieval buildings. The old town remained undestroyed in the war. There is a large castle on the hill above the town, with Luther exhibits -after all Univ Marburg was the first Protestant University in Germany (founded in 1527 by Landgrave I of Hesse).
It has a big student population because of its university (1/3 of the population are students, researchers, professors etc.).
So, it seems to be a nice town to stroll and simply absorb the historic sights.
Second word : The M A R B U R G V I R U S D I S E A S E (sorry, I can't master the spaces )
It's a Rna virus of rhesus, vervet and squirrel monkeys, transmissible to man.
It's related to the Ebola virus. (both the disease and virus)
The nucleotide sequence of genomic Rna of Marburg virus trains Popp was isolated in 1967, during the first filoviral outbreak.
Looking for..... may I hope a good mark, my dear Professor ?
(I add that I did my researches ... alone !!!)

Ok, Miss Mysto, you are the champion !!!!! but if I had more time this afternoon ... I will have answered rapidily before Mysto, because I had found the answers.
Miss Mysto, you have forgot that Marbourg is situated along the Lahn river.
Boris Pasternak said by the way Marbourg :"if this city was only a city. Is it not also a medieval fairy tale ?
Alone for your researches, said you ??? Ebola virus this midday ?? It was a good way, doesn'it ?

YES!
You got it, my dear MystO'
Congratulations!
Nowadays, "Marburg" decimates people in Uige Province (Angola) where there were 329 dead men for 374 infected men in 2005. Recently, some biology researchers found it in flying foxes while they were looking for Ebola. The flying fox seems to be the vector for Marburg and Ebola virus.
Thank you for your participation.
