Advice est un nom commun indénombrable (uncountable) traduisant ici "les conseils". Il s'emploie avec un verbe conjugué à la 3ème personne du singulier.
Un conseil : a piece of advice.

I was, you were....... Verbe To BE conjugué au prétérit.

Work est un nom incomptable sauf en parlant de l'oeuvre d'un écrivain, d'un musicien ou d'un peintre (ex: Picasso 's works, l'oeuvre de Picasso).

Many s'emploie surtout dans les phrases interrogatives et négatives, on utilise plus souvent a lot of ou lots of.

En ce qui me concerne, je pensais que "the rich" signifiait "les riches" mais que "riches" faisait ici tout simplement référence à la richesse au lieu des riches.

Les pauvres disent que la richesse ne rend pas l'homme heureux.

Mais oui, mon cher Nobody, effectivement, tu as raison, le soleil de ces jours-ci m'a fait de l'ombre sur l'autre traduction du mot richesse, c'est-à-dire oui, "riches" féminin pluriel.
Je vais l'ajouter à "wealth" que seul j'utilisais until now !!!!!

Nobody a raison, ici "riches" est le nom "richesse". Sinon, chère MystO'griff tu as raison aussi on dit bien "the rich" tout comme on dit the poor.
Allez je vous donne la correction et les explications. Bravo à tous,
1- His advice was very wise => some advice = pluriel; a piece of advice = singulier
2- You were the first to do it => I was, you were...
3- The class were not able to agree => a collective noun usually takes a singular verb, but when it denotes the individual members of the group and not the group as a whole a plural verb must be used.
4- I have a lot of work to do this morning => The plural form "works" means a factory or the writings of an author, as "the works of Shakespeare are many" or "I visited the iron works".
5- The thunder and lightning frightened the little girl => thunder and lightning + sigular verb. When only one thing is meant we say "a crash of thunder" and "a flash of lightning"
6- I have more than two dozen books at home => two dozen eggs etc..But when "dozen" is not preceded by a numeral (like "two") or by "a", the plural form is used as : "there were dozens of eggs"
7- The poor say that riches does not make a man happy => The poor = les pauvres
8- He sent a man to bring his luggages => luggage = toujours au singulier. Egalement, "baggage" as "the baggage is ready for the train"
9- You should go and have your hair cut : they are too long => hair = cheveux, hairs = poils
10- I am waiting for more information about this matter => some information, a piece of information
